A thermostatic radiator valve (TRV) senses the air temperature in the room and throttles the flow into the radiator to hold it there. Fit them through the house and each room heats to its own setting, instead of every radiator running flat out until the hall thermostat is satisfied.

This is the angled pattern, for the common arrangement where the pipe comes up out of the floor or in from the wall and turns into the side of the radiator. The polished chrome finish suits chrome towel rails and modern column radiators.

Good to know

TRVs are not recommended in the same room as your main room thermostat, as the two will fight each other. They are also not suitable for single-pipe systems or for electric-only radiators.
